Rich City League has always been bigger than the games on the schedule.
Since its beginning in Richmond in 2011, RCL has been about creating a place for basketball players to compete, build relationships, gain exposure and represent the basketball culture of the city.
Over the years, the league grew from an idea into something people recognized. We built relationships beyond Richmond, worked alongside respected names in grassroots basketball, received media exposure, created memorable summer runs and gave players another stage to showcase who they were.
Then RCL went quiet.
But the vision never disappeared.
Now, Rich City League is coming back — and instead of simply recreating what existed before, we decided to build what we always believed RCL could eventually become.
This is the next era of Rich City League.
The new RCL is being designed as a year-round basketball ecosystem for Richmond. The league itself remains at the center, but the experience no longer begins when a player walks into the gym or ends when the final buzzer sounds.
Players, coaches and fans will have profiles. Members will be able to connect through a basketball-focused social community, follow league activity, interact with other members, join communities, organize runs and build their reputation throughout the platform.
Player statistics, standings, schedules, game results and achievements will live alongside that social experience.
We are also introducing REP — a reputation system designed to recognize participation throughout the RCL community. Members will be able to earn REP and badges through activity, achievements and involvement with the platform.
Fantasy basketball, community features, player recognition, basketball runs, historical content and original RCL media will continue expanding that experience.
And this is only the beginning.
Our goal isn’t to build another website people visit once to check a schedule.
We want to build a digital home for Richmond basketball.
A place where a player can compete in an RCL game, have his performance recorded, earn recognition, talk about the game afterward, connect with other hoopers, find the next run and continue building his basketball identity — all inside the same community.
We also want RCL to become a platform for the people surrounding the game.
Coaches. Creators. Photographers. Trainers. Officials. Businesses. Fans. Former players. Current players. The next generation of Richmond basketball.
There is room for all of them in what we’re building.
Right now, the platform is entering its beta stage. We’re intentionally opening the doors to a smaller group first so real members of the basketball community can use it, challenge it and help us improve it before the larger public launch.
Some of those first members are people who were part of Rich City League years ago.
That’s intentional.
Before we introduce the next generation to RCL, we want the people who helped create its history to have an opportunity to see what that history is becoming.
There will be changes. There will be new ideas. There will be features we improve, features we expand and probably a few things our beta community tells us to rethink completely.
That’s what beta is for.
But the mission remains familiar:
Create something meaningful for Richmond basketball.
The difference now is the scale of the vision.
We’re not rebuilding the old Rich City League.
We’re building the next one.
Welcome back to RCL.
More Than A League.
