RICHMOND, VA — October 24, 2026
With college basketball returning in just over a week, the University of Richmond is giving local fans an opportunity to connect with its men's basketball program away from the court.
On Friday, October 23, Richmond Athletics announced a special preseason edition of Behind The Web, featuring head coach Chris Mooney and newcomer Jamie Kaiser Jr.
The live radio show is scheduled for Monday, October 26, from 6–7 p.m. at The Local at Forest & Ridge.
Voice of the Spiders Bob Black will join Mooney for the broadcast, which will air on 106.1 ESPN and stream through Richmond's official athletics website. Fans are encouraged to attend in person and participate in the conversation.
## Jamie Kaiser Jr. Takes Center Stage
One of Monday's attractions will be Kaiser, the 6-foot-6 guard and forward who transferred to Richmond after playing at Butler.
Kaiser arrived with experience competing in the Big East Conference. During the 2025–26 season, he averaged 9.5 points and approximately 4.5 rebounds per game while making 29 starts. His defensive contributions included a team-high 36 steals.
The Virginia native previously played at Maryland before transferring to Butler.
Kaiser has already demonstrated his scoring potential for Richmond. During the Spiders' October 18 exhibition against James Madison, he led the team with 17 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range.
Monday's appearance offers fans an opportunity to become more familiar with a player expected to contribute during Richmond's upcoming campaign.
## A Different Kind of Basketball Experience
Richmond's basketball culture extends beyond games, highlights and final scores. Opportunities to hear directly from coaches and athletes provide another way for supporters to engage with college basketball.
For young players throughout Central Virginia, hearing a Division I coach discuss preparation, expectations and team development can offer perspectives beyond what happens during a game.
The program also creates opportunities for supporters to submit questions. According to Richmond Athletics, fans can contact the show through email at behindtheweb@richmond.edu or by texting 804-327-0888.
The university has not announced a specific discussion agenda, so the subjects covered Monday remain to be determined.
Fans unable to attend can listen through the radio broadcast or online. Richmond Athletics also plans to archive the program on its website. The full schedule of future Behind The Web broadcasts will be announced following Monday's preseason edition.
## Countdown to Opening Night
Monday's event arrives exactly one week before Richmond's regular-season opener.
The Spiders are scheduled to host UNC Asheville on Monday, November 2, at 7 p.m. inside the Robins Center.
Richmond returns home November 5 to face Southern Virginia before traveling to Philadelphia for a November 8 matchup against Temple.
The early schedule will give Mooney and his roster opportunities to establish consistency before Atlantic 10 conference competition begins.
## Why This Matters for Richmond Basketball
The upcoming season brings another opportunity for Central Virginia's basketball community to connect with its college programs.
Events such as Behind The Web offer an alternative to traditional game-day experiences, creating space for conversation between supporters and the people representing Richmond on the court.
For fans interested in attending, Monday's broadcast begins at 6 p.m. at The Local at Forest & Ridge. The university encourages attendance but has not specified an admission charge or reservation requirements in its announcement.
Before the Spiders return to the Robins Center, Richmond basketball fans have an opportunity to hear from the people preparing for opening night.
